The Divorce Planner
Running Turtle Press and Interactive Media Publishing announce the release of the book The Divorce Planner: Self-Defense for Women When They Need It Most, by Janet Greek.
The Divorce Planner gives women not only a comprehensive overview of this extremely stressful process, but also a convenient place to organize information and keep notes of every meeting with their lawyer, accountant and therapist.
Additional chapters on everything from custody and abuse to talking to your spouse provide separate sections for notes as well as advice for planning and navigating these complicated divorce issues. The final pages of the book are blank for all those middle-of-the-night ideas and miscellaneous things you need to remember to tell your lawyer but will forget if you don’t write them down the second you think of them.
“With all pertinent information at your fingertips, this book will become your traveling office and most essential companion throughout the divorce process,” says Greek. Used as suggested, it will allow a woman to walk into meetings organized, prepared, and confident, enabling her to be an effective, active participant in her own destiny, which is essential to success.
The Divorce Planner also provides lists of questions to use when interviewing lawyers, accountants and therapists. Knowing what to ask is essential in order to select the right professional for you. Consequently, these questions were developed with the help of the lawyers, accountants and therapists consulted for the book.
A veteran of two divorces herself, Janet Greek has worked as a Hollywood writer/director in film and television for over twenty years. During that time she watched many women both friends and colleagues go through brutal, bloody divorces. Some of these women were smart, high-powered, self-confident players in film and television; others were equally smart, self-confident mothers and homemakers. Over and over she watched in astonishment as they were brought to their knees, losing their money, their homes, their careers, and sometimes, even their children. On one level, she understood: collectively, their divorces involved some combination of physical abuse (rape, beatings, or attempted murder), financial fraud, and sustained emotional cruelty (including casual and public adultery). Who wouldn’t find it difficult to function under such circumstances? And yet, these women were so…together. What happened, and how could these tragic outcomes be prevented?
After talking to hundreds of women and drawing upon her own experiences, she gradually developed a winning solution. She spent two and a half years researching and writing The Divorce Planner, which was then used by a cross section of women with great success and complete satisfaction. Their feedback, as well as advice from many women she talked with, appears in the book.
Ms. Greek consulted with lawyers, accountants, therapists and domestic violence organizations, including the Los Angeles Commission for Assaults Against Women, to insure that all information contained in the book is accurate and current. She has included a complete state-by-state list of 800 numbers for women’s shelters, rape hotline numbers, internet resources, and a detailed reading list for additional information on every aspect of divorce.
Recognizing that loss of information due to lack of organization is a critical stumbling block on the road to divorce success, Greek has created the definitive book to solve this problem and point women toward a more successful settlement.
